Summary
The aim of this project is to develop an innovative concept for the recovery of water, energy and nutrients from domestic wastewater. The core of this concept is ceramic nanofiltration. Ceramic nanofiltration membranes are made of titanium oxide and are hydrophilic. Due to these characteristics, water flows easily through the nano pores of the membrane and the pore will not clog easily. This is an advantage over conventional polymeric membranes, which are commonly used for water treatment. The clean water steam is potentially a suitable pre-treatment for reverse osmosis, used for production of demineralised water for industries.
In the pilot hall, the efficiency of ceramic nanofiltration was tested using pre-filtered domestic wastewater. The pre-filtration existed of a grit and fine sieves, including a drum- and belt sieve.
